St Piran September Newsletter
Welcome to St Piran class, I hope that you have enjoyed the summer holidays and are feeling refreshed and ready for a new year to begin. I will write newsletters regularly to keep you informed of any news, our topics and important dates. I will also be updating our class blog regularly which can be found on the school website under class blogs and then St Piran. If you have any concerns or questions please see myself or a teaching assistant as soon as possible.
The Inspire Curriculum
As you may know the Government have introduced a New National Curriculum. To ensure we meet the new targets of the curriculum we will be using The Inspire Curriculum, which is a topic based approach to learning with units changing every four weeks. Overleaf you will find information about our first topic ‘The Big Build’ which focuses on construction and the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’. Next week we will be learning the story off by heart, it would be great if you could help them practise it.
Reading
It is important that all children are reading at home for at least 10 minutes daily. Their reading books will be changed weekly but please feel free to change your child’s reading book if they have finished the book or they are not enjoying it. When you have read with your child please leave a comment in their reading records, so that we can monitor your child’s progress and address any issues or concerns. Book Club will also be starting next week, during Book Club your child will read with myself once a week in a small group and then complete a consolidation activity based on their reading from the previous day.
Homework
Following the new School policy on homework, St Piran children will be expected to complete a weekly Numeracy or Literacy based activity, which I will alternate, in their homework books. The first piece of homework will be set on Friday the 12th of September and will be due in by Wednesday the 17th of September so that it can be marked. Children will also be given a set of 30 spellings which they are expected to practise at home during the Autumn term, these will be sent home soon.
P.E
P.E will happen on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. It is essential that your child has a named P.E kit (a white t-shirt, black shorts, and plimsolls or trainers) in school every day as the hall timetable may change.
Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons
On Tuesday afternoons St Piran will be taught by Mrs Burns who normally teaches Penhaligon class. On Wednesday afternoons St Piran will be taught by Miss Dodson and Mrs Burns.
Meet the teacher
You are invited to a welcome meeting on Wednesday 17th September at either 3:30-4:00 or 5:30-6:00 for an informal chat about your child’s learning.
