St Piran Newsletter Thursday 25th May
St Piran – Home learning – Thursday 25th May 2017
For home learning this week I would like the children to practise talking about what they’ve been doing! Talking about things really helps children to order their ideas so that their writing makes better sense.
On the first Monday back, I will be asking the children to write a recount of their holiday. It will give them extra confidence if they’ve had the chance to talk their ideas through before coming into school.
Support tips
- Talk to your child about a particular day or activity.
- Ask them questions about it. Can you remember the name of where we went? Which part did you enjoy most? What happened after that? Can you remember what we did first? Etc.
- It’s not necessary to write anything down. If you wish you extend your child’s learning further, encourage them to draw pictures of the events in order or to use words such as first, then, after, finally when they talk about the events of the day. (It is better to focus on 1 activity/day out rather than try and order the whole week – we’re not writing a diary)
Children may bring a small souvenir to help remind them of a day out. It could be a leaflet/ticket about an activity or a stone/leaf they found at the park/beach/garden.
The Phonics Screening Check will be taking place the week beginning the 12th June. Please continue to practise reading, phonics and spellings wherever you can.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Penhaligon Newsletter Thursday 25th May
Penhaligon Newsletter 25.5.17
This week we have been finishing our instructions learning and practised our multiplication. In Science we labelled the parts of a plant with Mrs Davis. A big thank you for everyone who came to support Sports day. The children were brilliant and everyone had an excellent afternoon.
Home Learning and Reading
For home learning over the holidays I would like the children to research the colours of the Brazilian flag and to colour in the template of the flag. For an extra challenge why not research the phrase ‘ordem e progresso’ and find out what it means.
Spellings Group 1- cry, all brother, key, want, worm, can’t, didn’t, see, sea.
Spellings Group 2- reply, always, monkey, watch, towards, television, treasure, happiness, national, station.
Times tables- The week beginning the 5th June we will be practising the 2x and learning the multiplication and division facts.
Please ensure you are reading with your child as often as possible. The children need to be practising their reading at home to ensure that they continue to build their fluency and develop their understanding. Please initial their reading record when you have read with them.
Recorder
Recorder sessions with Mrs Whatley will continue on Monday afternoons after half term. If the children have their own recorders remember to bring them in on Mondays.
Thank you for your continued support

Penhaligon Class Newsletter Friday 19th May
Penhaligon Newsletter 19.5.17
This week we have been completing our SATS. The children have been fantastic and a real credit to themselves. Well done Penhaligon class! In Science we made our own plant models and labelled them with Mrs Davis.
Home Learning and Reading
As we are finishing off Sats next week and the children will be tested in their spelling, reading and arithmetic I have not set any formal home learning. If you would like to you could continue to practise the 2s, 5s, and 10s times tables and revise any spellings previously learnt this year. As an optional activity practise telling the time with your child. We made our own clocks today and the children need to practise making and reading half past, quarter to, and quarter past times. Please ensure you are reading with your child as often as possible. The children need to be practising their reading at home to ensure that they continue to build their fluency and develop their understanding. Please initial their reading record when you have read with them.
Recorder
Mrs Whatley will be coming in every Monday to teach recorder for the rest of this term. We have had three sessions so far and the children have been fantastic! We hope to include a recorder performance in our class assembly and open afternoon on Thursday 13th July.
Sports day
Weather permitting, KS1 Sports day will be next week on Wednesday 24th May. It will start at 1:30pm and will be finished by the end of the school day. Children will need full PE kit including plimsolls or trainers. They will also need a drink in a suitable drinks bottle and a hat.
Thank you for your continued support
