Perranporth School Newsletter 25th January 2013
Dear Parents/Carers
This week we welcome another pupil for St Piran Class, called Isabella!
NEWQUAY INTER SCHOOL QUIZ
CONGRATULATIONS go to Samson S. in Trengrouse, Ben in Boscawen, Noah P.G. and Amber in Davy who won the first round of the competition, so they will now go forward to the final!
HOME LEARNING
Thank you to those who are encouraging and being involved in such amazing home learning. We have received some brilliant work of a very high standard. KS2 pupils seem to really be enjoying the “Victorians” topic this term.
FOPS
There was a meeting this week in which lots of exciting events have been planned….a mini trialthlon, Easter Bingo,
a camp out. social events etc. The committee works very hard to raise money and organise fun, social events and they are always keen to have more volunteers so please contact Terena Hillary , Julia Georgelin or the school office if you would like to be involved.
A reminder from FOPS, that it is the turn of Penhaligon Class to provide cakes on 1st February.
POOL PROJECT
The fund now stands at £40,000. The local community has been so supportive with this and the proceeds of £90 from the Perranporth Lantern Parade at Christmas have been kindly donated this week.
FACEBOOK
This week we have launched our first school Facebook page. This page is primarily for any news or updates that we think may be useful to parents. Please find us by searching Perranporth CP and ‘Like’ the page to receive updates. It will be another way to contact you, but will in no way replace any of the forms of communication that we currently use. Please be aware that this is not constantly monitored and therefore all contact must still go through to Mrs Hunkin on 01872 572021.
THE WELCOME
Mrs Bell is holding a meeting at 6p.m. on Monday 4th February to organise this year’s St Piran’s Day “welcome” which will be on Friday 1st March. This is a fantastic community event and everyone is welcome to come to the meeting, particularly new parents who have not experienced this before!

Dear Parents/Carers
This week we welcome James in St Piran Class who has come all the way from Derbyshire.
St Piran Class had an excellent trip to Heartlands on Wednesday. Father Caspar took assembly and we had “Open the Book” assembly on Wednesday when bible stories are dramatised by volunteers from local churches.
Boscawen and Trengrouse Classes worked with artists to begin designing flags which will be used in the community. This is an exciting project which Mrs Smitheram is organising with local schools and community groups.
The Cross Country Event was enjoyed yesterday despite the cold and mud. Three pupil attended a “Gifted and Talented “ art event in Newquay.
FOPS Cake Sales
A reminder from FOPS, that is the turn of St Piran Class to provide cakes for the sale on Friday 25th if you can please!
“Safe Surfing”
Are you aware of the Internet issues that children can be subject to ? Do you know what your child knows? Pop in and have a coffee and a chat from 9.00 a.m on Monday 4th February. Our ICT advisor, Glyn Pascoe will be here as well as Miss Roberson and Mrs Ballinger to answer any questions and astound you with the latest updates!
FOPS (Friends of Perranporth)
The next meeting will be at 3.15p.m. on Monday 21st January in Miss Radcliffe’s classroom. Everyone welcome!
After School CLubs
Thank you to those who have paid up for this term! If not, we would appreciate the £10 as soon as possible. Unfortunately, we have had some behaviour issues from a few pupils already this week. This spoils the club for other pupils and staff so when this happens, we will have to refund money and cancel the club membership for the term.
FUTURE DATES:
NON- PUPIL DAY 15th FEBRUARY
HALF TERM 18th-22nd FEBRUARY
END OF TERM 28th MARCH
SUMMER TERM 14TH APRIL-19th JULY
HALF TERM 27th -31ST MAY

Liz Martin (headteacher)
