Davy class newsletter 15/12/16
Luscious literacy,
In literacy this week we have been writing a set of instructions of how to mummify a person. First you have to make sure the body is actually dead and then you wash it in Nile water and wine. Next you get a metal hook and put it up the nose and wiggle it about until the brain comes out. Then you get obsidian and make a hole in the left hip and then take out the intestines, liver the stomach and lungs. And I will not go on any longer.
Marvellous maths
In maths this week we have been doing 2 different things, first we have been doing finding the middle between 2 decimal numbers, here is 1 to try at home, find the middle between 1.8 and 8.8. and we have been doing word problems.
Joke time : have you tried to eat a clock… you shouldn’t, its very TIME consuming
By Stanley, Jesse and Katie (the joke is all Stanley’s)

St piran Newsletter Friday 16th December
This week we have been writing letters to Father Christmas and performing our Nativity play.
Phonics
This term in our Phonics we have been re-capping Phase 3 of our Phonics. In the past few weeks we have learnt the new phonemes for phase 5. There are some excellent free games on Phonics Play to help your child practise their Phonics.
Home Learning
For home learning this Christmas I would like the children to write about an event which has happened in their Christmas holidays. They might like to write about their Christmas day and their favourite present. They might like to write about something special they did in the holidays.
Support tips:
- Talk to your child about what they would like to write about.
- Encourage your child to sound out the words they want to use in their writing.
- Remind your child that every sentence needs to begin with a capital letter and end with a full stop.
Below are some other optional activities children may like to complete during the holidays.
Extra activities:
- Share books at home with an adult or an older sibling.
- Practise letter and number formation.
- Complete number sentences using tap and unwrap or drawing their own pictures for support.
- Spellings and phonics practise. Say a word with a sound in, ask your child to segment the sounds in the word out loud and then write the word down.
- Write/type sentences or stories. Encourage your child to rehearse what they want to say out loud before writing it down or typing.
- Keep a diary of your holidays.
- Log on to Mathletics to practise Maths activities.
To the Rescue
Our first topic of next term is called ‘To The Rescue’. Within this unit the children will develop an understanding of the rescue services and in particular rescues at sea. We will be learning about Grace Darling in History, poetry in our English and art based on the sea and seashore in Art and Design. At the beginning of next term the children will be given spellings. Spellings will be given out on a Friday and will need to be practised at home. Spellings will be tested informally the following Friday. Children will also have the opportunity to practise their spellings in school. Spellings will always be linked to the phonics we are learning that week.
Dates for your Diary and Reminders
We are a nut free school. We kindly ask that children do not bring in nuts or obvious nut products as part of their snack or lunches.
Wednesday 4th January- First day of Spring term.
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Hi there,
Please find attached the home-learning instructions for the Christmas holidays. We hope you all have a fantastic festive period!
Please note, there is a separate document (that cannot be uploaded) with the ideas for maths learning on it – your child will get a copy of this to bring home!
Kind regards,
Mr Harris.
