Hello, and a warm welcome to Boscawen Class!
We, Miss Jess Roberson and Mrs Ellie Smitheram will be your child’s teachers this year. Our teaching assistant is Miss Palfreyman. Mrs Smitheram teaches Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Miss Roberson on a Thursday and Friday.
Our learning themes for the first 4 weeks of the Autumn term are ‘Humans are Animals Too and The Animals of Farthing Wood. More detail on what we will study in this topic is included on the reverse of this letter. For each topic we like to create a role-play area in the classroom. Children are allowed to bring in relevant toys or artefacts that link with the theme. Our role play area is currently Farthing Wood.
This term our PE day is Tuesday, however, this can vary (a lot) and therefore we would appreciate a full PE kits in school every day. A full kit includes white t-shirt, black shorts, suitable trainers and tracksuit bottoms and green jumper for winter. These should all be clearly labelled and in a PE bag. It will also help to have coats, hats, lunch boxes, drinks bottles and money purses, etc, labelled in order to avoid loss or arguments over belongings. There is now no lost property box. If belongings do not find a home in school they will be left out on a Friday in the parent’s shelter then given to FOPs for resale, so keep a look out for those missing items and label, label, label! Children will be expected to take on the responsibility for their own belongings now that they are juniors!
This year the whole school is launching a new approach to consistent homework. Children will be asked to complete spelling and numeracy facts homework every week as well as one longer task. Homework is usually set on a Friday to be handed in and tested on the following Friday. Children are responsible for learning spellings and tables (and not necessarily in order) and for remembering their books, which will now be provided in plastic wallets to help keep everything together and in one piece!

WELCOMEI would like to say a warm welcome to our new class member Sasha.
HELP?? We are very keen to get our outside area overhauled but we need your help!
Our ultimate dream would be to turn the slope of grass outside our windows into a mini amphitheatre. This could then be manageable space where children could work in groups, read, sketch, eat their lunch or listen to a story but still be under our watchful eyes! Any help or advice on how we could develop this space with minimal funds would be very much appreciated |

It is important that your child carries out sustained reading at home for at least 10 – 15 minutes each day. It will help their reading progress and access to the key stage 2 curriculum significantly. Reading diaries are checked weekly and the children that have read most frequently in a week do receive a certificate and recognition in celebration assembly. | |
Finally, If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to catch us before 8:40am or after 3:20pm. By working together, we can help support your child as they continue their learning journey through the school. We very much look forward to meeting you all. |
