St Piran class newsletter Friday 8th May 2015
This week
This week in Maths we have been learning about shapes. The children have beeng investigating the properties of 3d shapes and experimenting making their own 3d shapes. In English we wrote our own sensory trail leaflets ready for our sensory trail which we will be taking Trevithick class on soon.
Homework
For homework this week I would like the children to complete the shape worksheet. Some children need to count the sides of a shape and draw a line to the correct number of sides. Other children need to complete the shape table by filling in properties belonging to regular 2d shapes. Children may need help remembering the specific properties belonging to each shape and it may help them to be able to see the shape. If you search for regular 2d shapes on a search engine and then select images you will be able to find images of 2d shapes to help your child. As an extra challenge children could go on a shape hunt to find 2d and 3d shapes at home and record the shapes they find.
Phonics
Next week in phonics we will be learning about the alternative spellings for ‘igh’ and ‘oa’. I have tried to allocate spellings which show the different spellings of these phonemes. It is important that children are practising their spellings at home as well as at school.
Many thanks

Dear Parents and Carers,
This week we have been finding out about seed dispersal. The children looked around the school grounds and sketched different plants and their seeds, e.g. dandelions.
We have continued reading The Wind in the Willows. The children have been thinking about how different characters might be feeling at different parts of the story and have been very insightful in their ideas.
In Maths, we have been looking at the properties of different 2d and 3d shapes. Can your child show you a cuboid, a cube or a sphere? Can they show you the faces, edges and vertices? We have also practised telling the time.
In our topic work, we have been looking at the weather and can name four different types of cloud.
Please remember Sports Day is on Thursday 21st May at 2pm on the school field.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to drop in to see us or email us on sburns@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk or esmitheram@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk .
Thank you.
Mrs Burns and Mrs Smitheram.
