Boscawen Newsletter 5th May 2017
Dear Parents and Carers,
The children have begun to bring in some beautiful home learning, thank you for the support you have been giving them. They are really engrossed in the Roman topic and producing some lovely pieces of learning.
Next week, we will be doing a 2 and 3 times tables test – again it will include the division facts of each times table. It would be really useful if you could support your child in preparation for this test. A practice sheet is on the reverse of this sheet.
In PE, we will try to go outside as often as possible, so please check that your child has their PE kit, including trainers or plimsolls on Friday.
As always, if you would like to discuss anything, please drop in to see us or email us on sburns@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk or esmitheram@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk.
Thank you.
Mrs Burns and Mrs Smitheram.

Penhaligon Class Newsletter 5th May 2017
Penhaligon Newsletter 5.5.17
This week we have been dividing in our Maths. The children are fantastic at using pictorial representations to help them with their division. In English we wrote our own versions of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children wrote brilliant stories!
Home Learning and Reading
Home Learning this week is a grammar booklet. The children may want to split the activities over a few days rather than attempting it all in one go. Please ensure you are reading with your child as often as possible. The children need to be practising their reading at home to ensure that they continue to build their fluency and develop their understanding. Please initial their reading record when you have read with them.
Spellings
Spellings this week are linked to spelling rules that the children will be revising next week.
Group 1- bridge, fudge, ice, city, knee, know, write, wrap, apple, little.
Group 2- change, village, race, fancy, gnaw, knock, wrestle, wriggly, tentacle, possible.
Times tables
This week we will be learning the five times table. The children have a copy of the 10x table in their spellings book. They need to be able to recall the 10x table facts in and out of order. There will be a times table check every Friday.
SATS
The year 2 SATS will take place in the classroom and in the library on the weeks beginning the 15th and 22nd May. The children will do 6 papers in total spread out over these two weeks. The children are used to doing practise papers and we aim to keep these two weeks as relaxed as possible. If you have any further questions, concerns, or you would like more information please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

St Piran Class Newsletter
St Piran Newsletter – 5th May 2017
This Week
This week we have continued our learning about the senses. Gida’s mummy came to visit us with her guide dog, Penny. The children thought of lots of great questions to ask and found out that Penny is working when her handle is up, so we shouldn’t try to stroke her. They also found out that Penny has to stay really healthy so she can best look after Gida’s mummy so we shouldn’t ever try to give her extra food incase she gets tummy ache!
This was a fantastic learning opportunity – thank you very much Mrs Wilson.
Phonics
This week we have learnt ‘wh’, ‘ue’, and ‘aw’. Next week it will be ‘ph’, ‘ew’, ‘oe’.
Home learning
For Home learning this week I would like the children to order the numbers in their books.
For an extra challenge:
Write down the biggest number and the smallest number you can make out of 1 and 9 (eg. 19 or 91). Repeat giving your child other digits to play with.
Support tips:
- Say the numbers with your child.
- Look carefully at the first digit (the tens) in each number to help decide if the number is bigger or smaller than another.
Dates for you Diary and Reminders
We are a nut free school. We kindly ask that children do not bring in nuts or obvious nut products as part of their snacks or lunches.
Wednesday 24th May – Year 1 and 2 Sports Day at 1.30pm.
Friday 26th May – Inset Day (the school will be closed)
Friday 26th May – Friday 2nd June – Half term
