St Piran Class newsletter Friday 6th January 2017
St Piran Class Newsletter- 6th January 2017
This week we have started our new sea rescue topic. The children have explored the differences between sea side rescue in the past and the present in History. In Computing they practised their typing skills. In PE we started our gymnastics topic.
Phonics
This term we will be continuing our Phase 5 in Phonics. This week we have been revisiting tricky words, (specific words which can’t be ‘sounded’ out) and started learning about split digraphs (phonemes that are split by a consonant. In the word cake, the ‘a’ and the ‘e’ are working together to make the ‘a-e’ sound. Your child has brought home a spellings book today in their book bag. In their book there are 10 spellings that they need to practise for the following week. Spellings will be given out on a Friday and will need to be practised at home. Spellings will be tested informally the following Friday. Children will also have the opportunity to practise their spellings in school. Spellings will always be linked to the phonics we are learning that week.
Home Learning
For home learning this week children need to read the time underneath the clock face and draw the time onto the clock face. For other time home learning activities this week make your own clock, practise telling the time using a clock or a watch, or use the Mathletics time activities to practise your time telling skills.
Support tips:
- Use an analogue clock or a watch to practise reading and making different times with your child.
- Encourage your child to use the appropriate vocabulary, e.g. hand, hour, minute.
Science
Mrs Davis will be teaching the class on a Tuesday morning. For their Science learning this term she has requested any large empty fizzy drinks bottles for an experiment.
Dates for your Diary and Reminders
We are a nut free school. We kindly ask that children do not bring in nuts or obvious nut products as part of their snack or lunches.
Wednesday 4th January- First day of Spring term.
Friday 20th January- KS1 own clothes day as a reward for earning over 400 diamond tickets last term.
