Football V Archbishop Benson
On Friday 20th November Perranporth hosted Archbishop Benson in an end to end football match. It was the first round of the Cornwall Small Schools Cup. Despite a spirited performance (and a superb match from the Archbishop Benson goalkeeper) Perranporth lost 3-1. The boys showed great teamwork and never gave up and this will lead them well into future competitions. Well done to those involved, and a huge thanks to the parents who came to support in the cold weather. A special thank you to Mr Savage for setting up the pitch, refereeing and organising the refreshments, it is much appreciated.

St Piran Class Newsletter 20th November
This Week
We started this week with an exciting trip to the Wonderful World of Oliver Jeffers at Cornwall College. The children behaved beautifully and have been inspired by the chance to step into a story. In Maths we have been learning about place value. We have been revisiting one more and one less with two digit numbers and began to learn about three digit numbers. In Design and Technology we painted our Diva lamps and in History we learnt about birthday celebrations in the past.
Phonics
This week in Phonics we have learnt the ‘oy’, ‘ue’, and ‘ir’ phonemes. If you have any free time please practise words with these phonemes in with your child. Next week we will be learning the ‘aw’, ‘wh’, ‘ph’ and ‘ew’ phonemes you may wish to get a head start on these phonemes. Please let me know if you have lost you Phonics book from last year and would like a new one.
Home Learning
This week in our Maths we have been learning all about Place Value. For home learning this week I would like the children to find out their telephone number. Then put these single digits in order from smallest to biggest. After that choose any two digit number and write down the number that is one more and one less than this number. For an extra challenge find one more and one less than three digit numbers.
Support tips:
- Write your telephone number down for your child. Then ask them to find the smallest number first. Cross out each number as you put them into order.
- Use a search engine to find 100 splat square, an interactive 100 square to help children visualise the order of numbers.
The 99 club
Your child may have discussed the 99 club with you. The 99 club has been developed to help raise standards in Numeracy by encouraging pupils to improve their mental maths and therefore increase the speed and confidence they tackle mental maths problems in Numeracy sessions, across the curriculum and in day to day life. The children have a certain number of number sentences to complete in 10 minutes. The 11 club includes number sentences involving addition to 10, the 22 club includes number sentences involving addition to 20 and the 33 club includes both of these and number sentences involving 2x table, 10x and addition number sentences. In year 1 we will be completing the challenge once a week and all pupils start on the 11 club and work their way up. Please see me if you wish to practise with your child.
Many thanks
