Trevithick Class News
Welcome to the first Trevithick Class Newsletter!!! I hope you all had a lovely summer. I look forward to meeting you and working with your child.
This will be a regular feature from me and aims to inform you of news, topics and important dates. If you have any concerns please see me or a teaching assistant as soon as possible. You can also keep up with what is happening in Trevithick Class by visiting our blog available on our school website perranporth.j2webby.com/

SEAL stands for Social and emotional aspects of Learning (see attached newsletter). Our theme for this half term is ‘New Beginnings’.

Reading and Homework:
All the children have a book to share with you and it is important that they do a little bit of reading every night. This term I will be changing their reading books once a week, however it is important that they bring their book-bag to school everyday. Please make a comment in your child’s reading record as this helps me assess their progress. Thank you! For more information about our reading scheme please attend our ‘Parent Meeting’ later in the term (date to be confirmed). Please check your child’s book bag regularly for notes and newsletters. Children have received a laminated copy of the 45 key words and handwriting and numeral practice. Encourage your child to practise forming the letters and numerals correctly.
HELPING YOUR CHILD TO LEARN
- Share books and read with your child every day.
- Get them to school on time.
- Encourage your child to be independent; dressing, toileting and eating
- Practise maths together (counting, recognising and writing numbers 0 – 20)
- Share the sounds your child has learnt each week.
- Contribute to your child’s learning journey. Use WOW Moments or update Tapestry.
- Discuss, explore and question with your child whilst out and about.
- Come along to school events like parents evenings. This lets you know what is going on and lets your child know that you are supporting them.
WOW Moments:
Attached is a sheet for you to record observations of your child at home. It can be used to help build a picture of your child’s development or any other significant information you wish to share with us. I have included some previous ‘WOW moments’ so you can see what kind of information might be relevant.
‘Ollie used my lap top to write the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.’
‘Joe sang Cornish songs to his Daddy at home.’
‘Emily used a knife to butter her own toast this morning.’
‘Ben amazed us by riding his bike without stabilisers for the first time.’
‘Jade wrote all her number to 10 without help from me – well done.’
We are also continuing to use the ‘Tapestry’ online Learning Journey please contribute to this and we will share their successes in class.
Phonics:
We use a range of strategies and schemes to teach phonics these include Jolly Phonics and Letters and Sounds. Each week your child will be learning a new letter, the sound it makes and will be practicing forming it correctly. The sounds we will be learning this half term are s, a, t, i, p, n. Play ‘Eye Spy’ with your child focussing on these sounds.
P.E:
P.E will be on a Friday morning. It is essential that your child has a P.E kit (black shorts and white t-shirt) in school. Please ensure that your child’s name is written clearly in all uniform. If you wish to send your child in with a bottle of water, please make sure it is labelled clearly with your child’s name and put it in the blue tray next to the book bags.
Round Up:
All offers of support for reading practice with the children in Trevithick Class would be gratefully received – please let me know if you are able to give up some of your time.
Meet the Teacher:
You are invited to a ‘Welcome Meeting’ on Wednesday 9th Sept at 3.30 and repeated at 4.30 in Trevithick Class. Join us for coffee and an informal chat about how you can best support your child with their learning.

St Piran Class Newsletter Friday 4th September
Welcome back!
Welcome back! We hope that you all enjoyed the Summer break and are ready for a new School year. The children have settled in well to St Piran Class these last two days and have enjoyed exploring their new classroom.
Meet the teacher
On Wednesday the 9th of September at 3:30pm and 5pm we are holding meet the teacher sessions at the School. Our session will take place in St Piran Classroom. Please come along to find out a bit more about what your children will be learning about this year and our routine in St Piran Class. If you are unable to attend either of these sessions please see me to arrange a meeting at a more convenient time.
Mrs Davis
Mrs Davis will be teaching the class on a Thursday afternoon whilst I am on my scheduled time out of the classroom. As a getting to know you activity your child will have brought home a brown bag which they need to fill with one or some of the suggested items. These bags need to be brought back by Thursday please and this will be the homework for this week. Next week I will set the first piece of homework which your child will bring home in their homework book. Please complete the activity with your child. Each activity is related to our learning from the week and should take no longer than twenty minutes to complete.
Reading
Your child will be asked to read and have their reading book changed at least once a week by myself or Miss Dix. If they have finished their book and would like to change it please feel free to change their reading book in the morning. Reading books are kept in colour coded boxes just outside of Penhaligon class. If you are unable to change their book please mention to one of the team that their book needs changing and we will provide the children with the opportunity to do so at a later point in the day.
Home learning
In St Piran Class ‘Home Learning’ is celebrated and the children enjoy showing their classmates the learning they have completed in their own time. If your child would like to bring in home learning to share please make sure that it is related to our current topic or our maths. At the moment we have one more week on ‘The Big Build’ focussing on construction and The Three Little Pigs.
PE Kits
Our scheduled times for PE are on a Monday afternoon and a Wednesday afternoon. Each child will need their own labelled PE kit in school on these days. We will be going outside for PE as much as the weather allows us, so please make sure your child has either trainers or plimsolls in their PE kit. As the weather turns colder children are also allowed to wear either dark tracksuit bottoms or leggings as part of their PE kit.
If you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to come and see us. You can also contact me on my School email address as included below or arrange an appointment to come and see me before or after School.
Many thanks
Rachel Kitaruth and Laura Dix

Boscawen Newsletter 4th September 2015
Dear Parents and Carers,
It is lovely to see everyone back at school and ready to learn!
Our topic this half term will be Why Are Humans Animals too? Please find an outline of the topic overleaf.
PE
We will be having PE on Tuesday and Friday. Many PE lessons will take place outside so please ensure your child has a named PE kit which includes track suit bottoms or leggings, trainers or plimsolls and a warm top.
Spellings
Spellings will be sent home on Fridays to be tested on the following Thursday. Now that the children are in Key Stage 2, we expect them to practise these at home and although they will be taught the relevant spelling rules for each set of words that are sent home, we will not be practising them in class.
Homework
Homework will begin next week and will be sent home in a book as last year. In the meantime, some of you will remember our Summer Reading Challenge when children took photos of themselves reading in unusual places (like Chapel Rock pool, at the dentist and in a beach hut!) We are planning an ‘extreme reading’ display board with Year 4 and would love some more photos like those! Please email us photos of extreme reading to Mrs Smitheram!
Fruit Stall
Children in Key Stage 2 can buy fresh fruit at play time. The cost is 30p for a piece of fruit, they are also welcome to bring in their own fruit to eat if they prefer.
If you have any questions, please come and see us or email us on esmitheram@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk or sburns@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk .
Thank you.
Mrs Smitheram and Mrs Burns
