Family Learning Summer 2013
Family Learning
This term, parents and children from Mrs. Lampier’s class have taken part in a 12 week ‘Playing with Language’ course.
Each Tuesday afternoon, the parents have met in the Children’s Centre and found out how to extend their children’s vocabulary, how to support their children’s reading, what phonics is all about and how to help their children with writing.
They have also made lovely diaries, with photos of each week’s activities. Lots of tea and biscuits have been consumed while parents got to know each other!
The children have had a great time with Mrs. Bell, listening to stories and talking about them, playing phonics games and guessing what comes next in ‘Once Upon a Time’.
At 2.00pm the children have joined the parents for a joint activity. We have listened to stories then followed them by making fruit salad, shopping for milk and fruit then making milkshakes and lots of art activities with vegetables.
We took part in a ‘Bear Hunt’ in the environmental area, listened to a storyteller outside in the sunshine, made story boxes, collages of Elmer the elephant and had a Teddy Bear’s picnic.
Next week we are going to Trelissick Gardens where we will spend the morning in the woods building dens, hunting for bugs and drinking hot chocolate while sitting around a campfire. In the afternoon we will follow a trail based on the book ‘The Bad Tempered Ladybird’ and use binoculars, bug viewers and a tape measure to find out how long a blue whale is.
