Dear Parents/Carers
Thank you to all those who attended the “Safe Surfing” drop in on Monday. The children have had Internet Safety lessons this week. Miss Roberson took an assembly on Internet Safety and Father Caspar took Collective Worship on Tuesday. School Governors are visiting lessons and staff over the next week.
Sport
The football team won their match against Summercourt
Cake Sale
Penhaligon Cake Sale last Friday raised £67.50. Many thanks to all involved. No sale next week as it’s a non-pupil day.
FOPS Meeting
Next meeting will be after school on Monday 11th February in Miss Radcliffe’s classroom. All welcome.
BAG2SCHOOL collection day Tuesday 12th February from the Parents Shelter.
Don’t forget it’s bag2shool collection day next Tuesday 12th. All children have now been given a collection bag. Please fill with good quality adult and child clothes, bedding, hats, bags, cuddly toys, shoes tied together. Bags should be left in the Parents Shelter on that morning. A van will take them from the school and we are paid by weight. If you fill your bag and still have more to donate then simply use a bin bag – they still count! It’s a great opportunity for a clear out and to help raise funds for the school. Ask your friends and neighbours too!!
Muddy Path
I apologise for the state of the path outside St Piran’s Class. This is due to the new building works and I have been in contact with County regarding this on several occasions so hopefully it will soon be resolved.
Aspirations Day 14th February
The children have been asked to come to school dressed as what they aspire to be/have as a career. This should be great fun.
Staff Training
A reminder that there is a non-pupil day on Friday 15th February so that the staff can join other local schools for training.
Future Dates
NON-PUPIL DAY – 15TH FEBRUARY
HALF TERM – 18TH – 22ND FEBRUARY
THE WELCOME – 1ST MARCH
END OF TERM – 28TH MARCH
SUMMER TERM – 15TH APRIL – 19TH JULY

Dear Parents/Carers
CAKE SALE ON FRIDAYS
Thanks to Trevithick Class who raised £49 and St Piran Class who raised £60.50. Today is Penhaligon’s turn and next week is Boscawen. Empty tins are returned to the “community room” if they have not been collected.
BAGS2SCHOOL FUNDRAISING 12TH FEBRUARY
FOPS have arranged this for us and everyone can get involved. Look out for your free collection bag next week. Please fill with good quality clothes, bedding, curtains, soft toys, belts, handbags and shoes (tied together). Simply return to school on the morning of Tuesday 12th February. The bags are taken and weighed and the school gets 50p per kilo. Simple! A great way to have a Spring clearout. Posters will be around the school next week.
SPORT
Mrs Smitheram amd Mrs Edwards took children from Boscawen Class to a tournament in Newquay in which Ellie won a medal for best defender. The football team had a successful win against Summercourt School.
THE WELCOME
Mrs Bell is holding a meeting at 6p.m. on Monday 4th February to organise this year’s St Piran’s Day “welcome” which will be on Friday 1st March. This is a fantastic community event and everyone is welcome to come to the meeting, particularly new parents who have not experienced this before,
SAFE SURFING
Are you aware of the Internet issues that children can be subject to? Do you know what your child knows? Pop in and have a coffee and a chat from 9.00 a.m on Monday 4th February. Our ICT advisor, Glyn Pascoe will be here as well as Miss Roberson and Mrs Ballinger to answer any questions and astound you with the latest updates!
SCHOOL MEALS
There will be a special menu for Chinese New Year on 7th February and Shrove Tuesday on 12th February.
LATENESS
I met with Mrs Valentine, the Education Welfare Officer this week to discuss attendance and lateness. She will be contacting those families who have been late on several occasions since September. The register is a legal document so if a child arrives after 9.a.m the code will be for lateness, but after 9.15a.m, it will be classed as an unauthorized absence.
I am sure that you understand the need for children to have a settled start to the day.
FUTURE DATES:
NON- PUPIL DAY- 15th FEBRUARY
HALF TERM 18th-22nd FEBRUARY
THE WELCOME- 1st MARCH
END OF TERM 28th MARCH
SUMMER TERM 15TH APRIL-19th JULY

Best wishes,
Liz Martin (headteacher)

COMMUNITY ART
Mrs Smitheram has organised two drop in workshops to design flags for the community art project. All ages are welcome but accurate scissor skills are required.
These are at The Memorial Hall on Thursday 7th February from 6p.m. onwards and Saturday 16th February from 1.30p.m.
This is an exciting project for all the community to become involved and will result in twelve flags for “The Prom”.

HOME LEARNING
Thank you to those who are encouraging and being involved in such amazing home learning. We have received some brilliant work of a very high standard. KS2 pupils seem to really be enjoying the “Victorians” topic this term.
FOPS
There was a meeting this week in which lots of exciting events have been planned….a mini trialthlon, Easter Bingo,
a camp out. social events etc. The committee works very hard to raise money and organise fun, social events and they are always keen to have more volunteers so please contact Terena Hillary , Julia Georgelin or the school office if you would like to be involved.
A reminder from FOPS, that it is the turn of Penhaligon Class to provide cakes on 1st February.

The fund now stands at £40,000. The local community has been so supportive with this and the proceeds of £90 from the Perranporth Lantern Parade at Christmas have been kindly donated this week.

This week we have launched our first school Facebook page. This page is primarily for any news or updates that we think may be useful to parents. It will be another way to contact you, but will in no way replace any of the forms of communication that we currently use. Please be aware that this is not constantly monitored and therefore all contact must still go through to Mrs Hunkin on 01872 572021.
