FOPS Newsletter December 2012

The Friends of Perranporth School

Dear Parents, Carers, Friends & Governors,

CHRISTMAS FAIR

Any of you who came along to the Memorial Hall will know what a huge success the Christmas Fair was this year. Many thanks to everyone who helped make it such a fun event: whether you decorated cakes with your children, donated items, helped on the day or came with pockets full of money to spend. Everyone had a great time and Mrs Martin finally won a hamper – which we understand she has donated to the local Foodbank. In fact, we had so many items donated this year that we were able to make up not two but three hampers. The total raised will be around £850, similar to last year. Well done to everyone.

50p FRIDAY CAKE SALES

These have worked brilliantly, raising money specifically for the Pool Project. Initially just the FOPS Committee were baking cakes and then classes took turns. The cakes have proved very popular with the children and many parents have found their “inner baker”. We consistently raised between £50 and £70 a week. Thank you to everyone who baked or ate.

COMMITTEE

We recently held our AGM and as some of you may be aware, Robert Wiltshire decided to step down as FOPS secretary after two years in the role. He has worked extremely hard to raise the profile of FOPS and encourage more parents to involve themselves in fundraising for the school and Swimming Pool Project. The committee would like to thank him for all his efforts. He has been replaced by Terena Hillary (mum to Samuel in Davy class, Jessamy in Trengrouse and Guy in Penhaligon) and Julia Georgelin (mum to Jessica in Davy, Jake in Trengrouse and Amy in St Piran) who will jobshare. Mrs Martin remains the Chair and Tanya Higgins continues as Treasurer. Please, please seek us out if you have any suggestions on how to help raise funds for the school.

Sickness Advice 18th December 2012

18th December 2012

Dear Parents/Carers,

As you may have heard there is extensive sickness in school. Yesterday, there were a considerable number of children absent after weekend sickness. However, so far, there have not been many ‘phone calls today so hopefully things are returning to normal.

Please do not send your child to school if he/she is complaining of stomach pains and do not return to school until 48hours from the last sickness.

We are being extra careful regarding hygiene to prevent further cases.

The Carol Service for Davy, Trengrouse and Trelawny Classes will now take place on Thursday at 2pm at St Michael’s Church.   Hopefully most children will have recovered by then. Unfortunately, it cannot take place that evening as many children/families have prior commitments. It is our last chance of performing and I do apologise to those who cannot be there due to being at work.

Children can be dismissed from the Church so please will you ensure that your child knows whether they will be going straight home or whether they need to return to school with staff to wait to be collected from there. This is really important for their safety.

The Carolaire for Boscawen and Penhaligon Classes will be tomorrow evening at school as arranged.

The visits by Boscawen Class to the residential homes for the elderly have been cancelled.

I do hope you and your families keep well over Christmas and wish you all the best for 2013.

Regards,

Liz Martin
