Trengrouse Home-Learning – 15.06.16
Hi there,
Here is the home-learning for the following week – home-learning summer 2, number 2, 15.06.16
Next week, we also have three important events…
- On Monday, we are at Perranporth Beach with the surf club – please ensure your child has appropriate clothing, including a towel and change of clothes (even if they will not be participating in the surf sessions – it may be raining!).
- Key Stage 2’s Sports’ Day is on Thursday afternoon, from 1:30pm – please ensure your child has their kit, including appropriate footwear.
- Next week is also National Sports’ Week, so we hope to spend as much time as possible doing sporting activities and have some guests coming into school to help with this – children will need their kit in school every day to avoid missing out!

St Piran class newsletter
This Week
This week we have started out new topic ‘Animal Allsorts’. Within this topic we will be learning all about animals and how to sort them into different criteria. In Maths this week our focus has been money. In Design and Technology the children began to investigate puppets in preparation for making their own animal puppet.
Phonics
This week we have revisited ‘ew’, ‘oe’ and ‘ph’. Next week we will be revisiting ‘wh’, ‘aw’ and ‘ue’. The Phonics Screening check will take place next week. The children will be asked to read 20 real words and 20 nonsense words with me in the meeting room.
Home Learning
Our home learning this week is a money activity. The children need to find ways of making 10p or find ways of making 50p. They then need to record the ways they found in their book. They can record this home learning by drawing the coins or by just writing the value of the coins. For an extra challenge why not try solving this problem. Rosie went into the sweet shop with 10p to spend.There were chews for 2p, mini eggs for 3p, Chocko bars for 5p and lollypops for 7p. What could she buy if she wanted to spend all her money?
Pet/animal photos
To show our love of animals we have started to make a collection of pet and animal photos on our display. If your child would like to add to our collection please bring in a photo or drawing and we will add it to our display. Please feel free to email photos of the children with their pets or with animals to the address below and I can print them.
Design and Technology
As part of their learning within Design and Technology this half term the children will be making their own animal puppets. To help the children practise their sewing Mrs Davis has asked if children could bring in an old sock for them to practise on. Please could socks be brought in by Thursday 23rd June.

Welcome back! I hope you had a lovely break .We have a busy half term ahead!
SEAL:
SEAL stands for Social and emotional aspects of Learning. Our theme for this half term is ‘Changes’’. Please see the attached sheet on ways of supporting your child in this area.
Reading and Homework:
All the children have a book to share with you and it is important that they do a little bit of reading every night. It is important that they bring their book-bag to school everyday. Please make a comment in your child’s reading record as this helps me assess their progress. Thank you! Continue to read and learn the key words.

The letters and sounds we are learning this half term are sh, th, qu, oi, er. Practise writing words that contain these sounds, recognising them in their reading books and in the environment.
This term we will be learning about the ‘Seaside’ and our local environment. Support your child by talking about where you live, writing and sending a postcard, investigate what holidays were like in the past – have you got any old holiday pictures we could share? Continue to practise the key words and use them to write simple sentences. |
| Maths | Use the sheet to continue to form all numerals correctly. Work out addition and subtraction sums remembering to put the bigger number first! Practise ‘tap and unwrap’ strategy to solve number problems beyond 10. Collect seaside objects e.g. things found on the beach – count and sort them into sets. Count ‘beachy’ things e.g. the number of wind breaks, buckets, shells etc – make a tally chart of all the things you see at the beach. |
| EAD –Expressive Art and Design | In music we are learning a song about holidays and listening to sounds we hear at the seaside. What sounds can you hear at home, on the beach and in town? Use objects to create a beach scene – discuss how the objects feel, smell etc. Paint or draw pictures of what you enjoy doing on your holidays. Discuss any holidays abroad and what you did, look at holiday brochures and cut and stick pictures of where you would like to go. |
P.E:
P.E continues to be on a Friday morning. It is essential that your child has a P.E kit (black shorts and white t-shirt) and they should wear sensible footwear. Please ensure that your child’s name is written clearly in all uniform. Trainers or plimsolls will be needed this term.

All offers of support for reading practise with the children in
Trevithick Class would be gratefully received – please let me know if you are able to give up some of your time.
Wow!!
Please continue to record significant experiences (that make you say ‘wow’) that your child has at home, for example, if they get dressed by themselves or write sums for a sibling. Please return it to school. I can then celebrate these achievements with the children. They also support the judgments I make about the children when completing the foundation stage profile.
