Penhaligon Newsletter June 20th 2014
20th June 2014
Dear Parents and Carers
Thank you very much to all who have responded to our plea and offered items for our ‘Bug Hotels’. We will be constructing them the week beginning 30th June so there is still plenty of time for you to look around your homes and gardens for anything you feel may be of use to us, even if it is old or broken.
In Literacy this week we used different connectives in our writing to help explain more about animals and their features. Here are some examples:
Badgers have short legs and long claws, therefore they can dig underground tunnels.
A fox has a big, bushy tail so that it can keep warm while it sleeps.
Hedgehogs are mainly meat eaters and enjoy foods such as worms, beetles, slugs and snails.
Ask your child to write other sentences using these connectives.
In ‘Big Maths’ we solved logic problems using different coloured shapes. One of the problems asked us to arrange the pieces in a line and change either the colour or the shape in the next piece along. So, if we started with a blue triangle the next shape had to be either another triangle or another blue shape. Some problems were quite tricky!
Could we please remind you that we are planning a joint-trip with Boscawen class to the Hall for Cornwall on Tuesday 15th July. The total cost of the trip is £12.50. Please return the permission slip and money by Friday July 4th. We are still looking for helpers so if you would like to come along, pop in to see us. Thank you!
Please remember to visit the class blog on the school website where you will find this newsletter as wells as photographs and information about what your child gets up to in class:

Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs. Willetts and Mrs. Burns (Class teachers)
