Perranporth School Newsletter 17th May 2013

Dear Parents/Carers,

Unfortunately, technology got the better of me last week as Parent Mail would not accept the newsletter with the two photos of the flags and the school choir but it should be on the web-site.

Having said that, if you do have an email that we could use, it would save a lot of paper and ink as we still send about a third of hard copies.

Please contact Mrs Hunkin!  secretary@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk

The performance of “The Bolster” at the Hall For Cornwall was a great success and we were so proud of the children as they were brilliant and behaved really sensibly during a very long afternoon of rehearsals and waiting around. Our appreciation goes to Mrs Keast and Miss Radcliffe for their hard work and time.

Marten Holmes and “Open the Book” took assemblies this week and  a group of Year 4/5 children enjoyed a surfing lesson on Wednesday despite the cold.

WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK  20th – 24th MAY

Children are encouraged to walk to school as much as possible next week. There are permits available to park in the Wheal Leisure Car Park to allow parents and children time to walk before and after school. Please contact the school office.

HOMEWORK

There has been some amazing topic homework being returned to school, so thank you for supporting the home learning. Have a look on the web-site!

LATENESS & ATTENDANCE

There continues to be a substantial number of children who are regularly late in the morning. 13 on Monday!  It may only be a few minutes but it means that classes are continually being disturbed and do not have a calm start to the day. The Education Welfare Officer is visiting next week so if your child is one of these you are likely to be contacted.

This will also be the case if a child’s attendance drops below 90% and there are concerns regarding days of absence without a valid reason (e.g. birthdays!).

Taking holidays during term means that learning is missed and I would urge you to think carefully before doing so.

DRUMMING LESSONS

“Stick at It” are offering drumming lessons at 80% reduction for children who have free school meals, are children in care , have disability  living allowance or whose parents are in the armed forces. Please contact www.stick-at-it.com if you are eligible.

Perranporth School Newsletter 26th April 2013

Dear Parents/Carers,

This has been a particularly busy week, with two days to complete the interview process. I was extremely proud of the children and how polite and friendly they were to the candidates and other visitors. Mr Tranter would like to thank FOPS for organizing the delicious lunch and representing parents during the presentations.

Following the individual interviews and extensive debate between the governors the decision was made to appoint Mr Alistair Johnson who is currently an assistant head teacher at Dobwalls Primary School. He will be taking up the appointment in the Autumn Term and he is looking forward to meeting you at the first opportunity.

Trevithick Class assembly was excellent on Wednesday and showed what great learning takes place in the Early Years Class. Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend the assembly and for all the positive comments.

The Lifeguards talked to KS2 pupils in assembly yesterday regarding Beach Safety which is so vital living in Perranporth.

The Cross Country Presentations took place at Tretherras yesterday. Congratulations to Frank in Davy Class who came 5th for Year 6 boys and Jessica who came 4th for Year 6 girls.

Three children for Boscawen Class enjoyed a morning of music yesterday at a “Gifted and Talented” event at Tretherras.

Perranporth School Newsletter 22nd March 2013

Perranporth School Newsletter 22nd March 2013

Dear Parents/Carers,

Mrs Smitheram, together with Glyn (Eva’s grandad), a professional thatcher and children from the juniors have been busy thatching the Celtic Hut this week. It is looking great. Have a look on the “Lets Get Creative” blog on the web-site.

Despite the appalling weather, the “Fly Be Football Festival” went ahead on Thursday. Well done to all! Congratulations to Megan in Davy Class, who achieved 85 marks in the piano class in The Truro Music Festival last week. Trengrouse Class performed their recorder playing to the school in assembly.

CAR PARKING

I received a letter from a resident in Somerville Road this week and would appreciate your support with not parking in the road.
“Somerville Road is a private road and not a temporary car park for this purpose. The residents along the road are continually paying to upkeep the road, which is constantly being eroded by the quantity of ‘school run’ vehicles turning and parking along its length. Coupled with this, there are numerous times when we are actually unable to pass along the road to access our own homes, or join Liskey Hill, not to mention delivery and service vehicles’ difficulty of access, which is totally unacceptable.”

EASTER BINGO
The FOPS Annual Easter Bingo will take place on Wednesday 27th March from 7pm. This year it will take place in the Memorial Hall and NOT the school hall. This is a great night out for both adults and children and always a good fundraiser for school. Please see flyer in your child’s book bag. We are asking for parents to donate cakes that we can sell during the evening. Just bring them along to the Memorial Hall on the night.

RAFFLE PRIZES NEEDED
This year FOPS are holding an Easter raffle during the Bingo evening. If you would like to donate a prize for this, please hand in to the school secretary. Thank you.

Best Wishes,
Liz Martin (headteacher)

Easter Bingo Wednesday 27th @ 7pm

Hi all,

Easter Bingo is looming. Wednesday 27th in the Memorial Hall from 7pm.

We need:

1 A couple of parents to run the refreshment counter during the interval.

Everything will be set up for you so it’s just a case of making and selling tea and coffee.

You still get to play bingo!!

2 Someone to sell the raffle tickets as people arrive.

3 Someone to sell the bingo games as people arrive.

If you are able to help out with any of the above please

email me back so we can make final preparations.

Many thanks,

Terena Hillary
