Dear Parents and Carers,

As you can imagine, this week we have been practising our singing and acting for the Carol Concert on Monday. We look forward to seeing you either at 2.15 or 6pm in the school hall. We would like all the children to be dressed in school uniform for the performance, please. They can also wear a bobble hat if they would like to.

On Wednesday, the children took a well-earned rest from rehearsals when we had a visit from Kerry, who taught us yoga. The children really enjoyed learning some deep breathing techniques as well as a variety of yoga poses. Please look at the class blog for some photos of the children in action.

Today we also had Bobble Hat Day in aid of the NSPCC. The children looked fabulous in their hats and Boscawen raised £11.97 for the charity. Well done!

Don’t forget that next Friday is own clothes day in return for a bar of chocolate for the Christmas fair and the following Friday will be Christmas Jumper Day if the children would like to wear one as it is the last day of term.

Dear Parents and Carers,

99 Club
We have launched a challenge to children across the school to become members of the 99 Club. In order to become members, they answer mental maths questions in increasing numbers on different papers. First they become members of the 11 Club by answering 11 questions in 10 minutes, when they have successfully completed that, they move to the 22 Club where there are 22 questions to answer in 10 minutes, this progresses up through 33, 44 etc until they reach the 99 Club which requires 99 questions to be answered in 10 minutes. Each week, we will send home your child’s question sheet which will show any wrong answers which they can then practise before they are tested again the following week. We are stressing that the children should aim to improve their score each week rather than expecting to move up to a new Club each week, especially as they get to the higher clubs. The children seem really motivated to practise and beat their personal bests!

Carolaire
We will be holding our joint Year 2, 3 and 4 Carolaire on Monday 7th December at 6pm in the School Hall. The are practising hard and can’t wait to show you their brilliant singing!

Spellings
Well done to these children who got 10 out of 10:

Nits!
Sorry to nag, but we have nits in class again. Could you please check your child’s hair and comb with conditioner to remove any eggs or live lice that you find. Thank you!

Dear Parents and Carers,

It was lovely to see so many of you at Parents’ Evening – if you couldn’t make, please come and see either of us to set a time that is convenient.

You will have noticed that homework this half term is slightly different.  You should have received a grid which shows the homework for each week up to Christmas (no homework for the last couple of weeks of term.) Each week there is a choice of 2 activities, with a variety of curriculum areas covered over the course of the term.  We hope this will be easier and more fun for the children as they have some say in what they complete for homework.

In numeracy, the children have been learning how to explain the methods they have used to work out answers to word problems.  This ensures that they think through not only how to get an answer but also check that they have used the best method, e.g. a number line, column addition or using resources like 100 squares or base 10 materials.

We have continued to base our work on our class book, The Boy of the Painted Cave, which runs alongside our topic work on the Stone Age.

Thank you to everyone for making such a great effort for Children in Need – the children looked fantastic!
