Penhaligon newsletter 6.11.15

Dear Parent/Carer

Another positive week of learning on all fronts. Everyone is backed refreshed after a week off and it has particularly shown in our maths and literacy learning. The children have applied some excellent language and linguistic techniques to write some outstanding firework poems. The children showed great teamwork magpie-ing creative ideas from each other. In maths we have continued our excellent progress in doubling and halving and adding and subtracting. We have revised the importance of partitioning the number into digits to help us with the process. We have launched our new topic ‘Flying High’. We have enjoyed placing various flying objects on a timeline, making paper airplanes and designing non-motorised flying machines. In PE we have looked the teaching points to successful throwing and catching techniques as well as learning the importance of warm-ups. The children are particularly enjoying our book study of Matilda. They have loved the in depth analysis of each character so far. Their plans for revenge against Mr Wormwood are frightful!

Important dates for the diary:
Tuesday 10th November 3:30-6:00pm Parents Evening
Thursday 12th November 3:30-6:00pm Parents Evening

There are still slots available. The timetables are up outside the classroom.

Wet play games: If anyone has any old games e.g. board games, lego etc that are no longer used or needed at home and appropriate for school, these would be much appreciated for our wet play time activities. Many thanks in advance.

Star of the Week: Well done to Shane who has increased his independence with lots of jobs to do in the mornings. He has also shown great resilience in his efforts towards his learning including his extra maths home learning task.

Readers of the week: Well done to Lacey, Mekhi and Jaidean for achieving their white bands in their ‘karate reading’ tasks. They have been reading regularly with Mrs Davis and she has been extremely impressed.

Home learning: This week the children will build on their firework poetry. They will be able to tell you all about alliteration, similes and imagery.

That’s all for this week. Have a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing you all at Parents Evening next week.
