Boscawen Class Newsletter 5th February 2016
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to everyone who came to watch our assembly on Tuesday. I’m sure you will agree that the children put on a fantastic performance.
Next week will be our last one on our Shake, Rock and Roll topic. The children have worked really hard this half term, learning all about the science behind volcanoes and rocks as well as writing the script for our assembly.
They are also trying really hard to build their Learning Power through:
Resilience (not giving up when their learning is hard or when they get distracted)
Resourcefulness (thinking of different ways to keep going when they are stuck),
Reciprocity (sharing ideas and working collaboratively)
Reflectiveness (giving and receiving feedback on their own and others’ learning.)
Can your child give you any examples of when they have used any of these learning skills?
As always, if you have any questions, please drop in to see either of us or email us on esmitheram@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk or sburns@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk .
Thank you.
Mrs Smitheram and Mrs Burns.

Boscawen Newsletter 29th January 2016
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week we have been practising our assembly and we are now ready for our performance on Tuesday at 2.30pm! We do hope that you can make it. The children have worked really hard on their singing, acting and delivering facts and we are sure you will enjoy it!
Homework this week is to learn their lines – every child has been given a script to practise from.
If you need to see us, please drop in to see either of us or email us on esmitheram@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk or sburns@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk .
Thank you.
Mrs Smitheram and Mrs Burns.
Boscawen Class Assembly!
Don’t forget our class assembly:
Tuesday 2nd February at 2.30 in the school hall.
We hope to see you all there!
Boscawen Newsletter 15th January 2016
Dear Parents and Carers,
Just a couple of things to mention this week:
1. We still have several children each week (not always the same ones!) who do not have full PE kits. It is really important for the children to get into the habit of changing to do sports and exercise, so could you please ensure that your child has their kit on Tuesdays and Fridays, or ideally keep it in school all week.
2. Painting shirts – if you have any spare large shirts that the children could wear over their uniforms while they are painting, please send them in, we would be very grateful.
3. NITS! As you probably saw on the School Newsletter, we have still got head lice at school. We know that some children in our class have suffered from them since returning to school after Christmas. So please check your child’s hair with a nit comb. If you find any, please wet comb every other day for 2 weeks to clear them. It IS tedious but it works!
As always, if you have any questions, please come and see us or email either of us on esmitheram@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk or sburns@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk.
Thank you.
Mrs Smitheram and Mrs Burns

Boscawen Newsletter 8th January 2016
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back!
This week, have started our new topic, Shake, Rock and Roll. We have been thinking about the structure of the earth and how volcanoes form. We looked at a selection of stones and thought about the similarities and differences between them. We also built towers and knocked them over by causing earthquakes (shaking the tables they were built on!)
We have also started reading our new class book – The Firework-Makers Daughter by Philip Pullman, an exciting story about a girl who wants to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a firework-maker, but he does not think it is a suitable job for her. The story follows her adventures as she tries to prove herself.
In Maths, we have been consolidating our knowledge on place value. Next week, we will be concentrating on mental maths and practising different strategies to help us solve mental maths problems.
We are delighted to let you know that our class assembly will be at 2.30pm on Tuesday 2nd February 2016. We hope you can all make it to see all the children’s hard work!
As always, if you have any questions or would like to talk to us, please come in to see us or email us on esmitheram@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk or sburns@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk .
Thank you.
