Boscawen Newsletter 17th June 2016
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a busy week, with a visit from author Kate Neal, who really captured the children’s imagination and taught us how to use words for maximum effect in our writing, a street party for the Queen’s birthday and lots of other Brilliant Britain activities.
Just a reminder that Key Stage 2 Sports’ Day is on Thursday 23rd June at 1.30pm on the school field, we would love to see you there!
Also, we have been invited to Perranporth Library for a workshop with the Cats’ Protection League and a visit to the Museum on Friday 24th June. We will be leaving school at 9am so could everyone be here as promptly as possible please? If you would like to accompany us on our trip, could you please let us know as soon as possible? We do need a couple of extra adults for our adult to child ratio? We will be back in time for lunch and children will need to be in school uniform (with a coat or suncream, depending on the weather!)
If you have any questions, please drop in to see us or email us on sburns@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk or esmitheram@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk .
Thank you.
Mrs Smitheram and Mrs Burns.

Boscawen Newsletter 27th May 2016
Dear Parents and Carers,
The children have all been completely engrossed in our topic this term and it has been a real pleasure to watch them develop their understanding of this fascinating part of our history.
Next term, our topic will be Shadow Dancers. In science, we will investigate light and shadow, as well as the dangers and uses of the sun. In maths, we will continue studying multiplication and division, shape and data handling. Our literacy focus will be poetry and in geography, we will be thinking about day and night and how the earth’s tilt affects our lives.
We will be swimming on the first day back after the half term break. Please note that we start back on Tuesday, Monday is a staff training day. Fridays will still be normal PE and full kits, including trainers, will be needed every week.
Today was Mrs Barbery’s last day with us as she will be moving to Year 1. She is a fantastic TA and we will miss her! However, we are very luck to now have Mr Thompson who is training to be Marshall’s new one to one TA as Mr Lara will begin teacher training with us in September.
Can we just remind you that children are allowed a drink in a bottle on their tables, but this must be water, not squash or fruit juice, thank you.
We hope you all have a lovely week off, see you next term.
If you have any questions, please email us on sburns@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk or esmitheram@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk. Thank you.
Mrs Burns and Mrs Smitheram.

Dear Parents and Carers,
This week, we have been learning about right-angles and spotting them all around school. We have also learnt about Julius Caesar and written our newspaper reports about Queen Boudicca’s last battle – the children are trying really hard to improve their vocabulary. In PE, we have been practising our tennis skills. In science we have been learning about plants, taking a detailed look at their roots and discovering what the different parts of a plant are for.
Next week in RE with Mrs Davis, the class will be making models of Roman shrines, could they all bring in a cereal box or something similar, thank you.
If you have any questions or need to see us, as always, please drop in to see us or email us on esmitheram@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk or sburns@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk .
Thank you.
Mrs Smitheram and Mrs Burns.
Boscawen Newsletter 22nd April 2016
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week we have researched further into Roman Britain as well as modern day Italy. The children have really applied themselves to their learning, researching Roman gods and finding out more about Boudicca.
We have also continued with our Maths topics of addition and subtraction, using money and using decimals, as well as reading scales and filling in missing numbers.
We had a visit from our Class Governor this week. Mr White showed the children his robes and wig which he wears in court – the children were fascinated and took the opportunity to ask lots of interesting questions!
Could you please ensure that your child brings in their reading diary and PE kit on Fridays.
As always, if you have any questions, drop in to see either of us or email us on esmitheram@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk or sburns@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk .
Thank you.
Mrs Smitheram and Mrs Burns.

Boscawen Newsletter 15th April 2016
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you had a lovely break. It’s lovely to see all the children back in school ready to learn!
We have had lots of visitors this week – the lifeguards from Perranporth Beach to teach us all about beach safety, then Lilah’s mum kindly brought in 3 chicks for us to meet! Today, we had a visit from Luke Temple, a children’s author, who entertained us with excerpts from his books as well as very funny stories and videos – I am sure your children will want to tell you all about it!
We have also started our new topic about the Romans. We have learned about Romulus and Remus and the foundation of Rome as well as Boudicca and her battles with the Romans in Britain. The children are very enthusiastic about learning more about this interesting part of history.
Next week, we will start homework and spellings. In the meantime, you child has their ’99 Club’ sheet to practise and should be reading every night.
As always, if you have any questions, please drop in to see either of us or email on esmitheram@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk or sburns@perranporth.cornwall.sch.uk.
Thank you.
Mrs Smitheram and Mrs Burns.
