Penhaligon News

22nd November 2013

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week we have been busy working hard on our food topic, including making fruit salads.  In numeracy we have continued with our symmetry work and splitting numbers into hundreds, tens and units.  In literacy we have written about Mr and Mrs Grinling and thought hard about our verbs.

Next Tuesday afternoon, we have our school trip to Morrisons.  If you have not already returned the slip and the £5, could you please make sure it is brought in on Monday.  Thank you.

 Just a couple of reminders:

*The children need to try to read at home at least 5 times a week.

*We will go through any home-learning on Friday afternoon.  If it comes in before that, we will look after it in class until then.

*If you haven’t yet submitted a recipe for our School Recipe Book but have been meaning to, please forward one to Kate King as soon as you can!

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to come in and see either of us.

Many thanks, Mrs Burns and Mrs Willetts

Penhaligon News 11th October 2013

Dear Parents and Carers

This week we have become plant experts! The children have studied seed germination and have a fantastic vocabulary to describe the different stages of germination.  Their seeds are beginning to grow (some better than others!) and we will continue to care for them and see which conditions suit the beans best.

Next week in literacy we will be thinking about story writing and will be focussing on descriptive writing including similes.  We will also look at how the past tense is used in stories.

In numeracy, we will be thinking about complements to 10, using this to help our addition and subtraction, as well as continuing with our sorting work.  This week we began to work with Venn diagrams and next week we will continue with this as well as looking at other ways to sort numbers and objects.

In topic work we will be thinking about harvest time and how we use food to celebrate throughout the year.

We look forward to another exciting week!

Thank you.

Mrs Willetts and Mrs Burns
